Client

Air Selangor

Location

Selangor, Malaysia

Product Grade

NovaTex NW10 Non-Woven Geotextile

Quantity Supplied

250,000 m2

Primary Application

Non-woven geotextile as separator for drainage blanket

The Challenges Provided

The development of the Sg. Rasau Water Treatment Plant and intake infrastructure required extensive earthworks and ground treatment over soft subgrade conditions typical of alluvial floodplains.

During the installation of drainage blankets across large footprint areas:

Intermixing of Aggregates

Heavy construction equipment and earthmoving machinery risks driving the structural granular drainage aggregate into the underlying soft subgrade soil, causing contamination and loss of sub-base thickness.

Loss of Hydraulic Efficiency

Migration of fine soil particles into the aggregate drainage layer threatens to clog flow paths, disrupting pore water pressure dissipation and weakening long-term subgrade stability.

Large Surface Coverage

The massive scale of earthworks required a reliable, cost-effective, high-volume geotextile solution that could withstand high installation stress without tearing.

The Solution

To maintain the structural and hydraulic integrity of the drainage blanket across 250,000 m2, NovaTex NW10 non-woven geotextile was selected as the separator layer.

Effective Separation Layer

1

NovaTex NW10 was laid directly over the prepared subgrade prior to aggregate placement, creating a high-strength physical barrier that prevents the intermixing of fine subgrade soil and coarse drainage stone.

Optimal Permeability & Filtration

2

Engineered with needle-punched synthetic fibers, NovaTex NW10 maintains continuous three-dimensional water flow into the drainage blanket while retaining soil fines, keeping the drainage layer clean and unclogged.

Robust Mechanical Strength

3

The high tensile strength and puncture resistance of NovaTex NW10 provided superior cushioning against heavy machinery traffic (such as tractors and bulldozers) during backfilling and compaction.

The Result

Preserved Layer Integrity

Successfully prevented subgrade intermixing, ensuring 100% efficiency of the drainage blanket layer across the entire construction site.

Optimized Construction Efficiency

High material flexibility and ease of roll placement allowed rapid site installation, keeping the large-scale earthworks on schedule.

Long-Term Performance

Ensured long-term pore pressure reduction and ground stabilization beneath key water treatment plant infrastructure.
