A company in Papua New Guinea has taken a major step forward at its Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea, reporting its first gold production during the March 2025 quarter. The milestone marks a significant achievement in the company’s transition from explorer to producer, supported by strong metals prices and a strategic focus on long-term development.
Gold Circuit Commissioned, First Gold Poured
A key highlight for the quarter was the successful hot commissioning of a 6-tonne-per-hour gravity processing circuit, leading to the initial pour of gold from the site. This early-stage production comes as part of broader efforts to revitalise the historic gold mine operation and establish a platform for expanded output.
Advancing Exploration Across Priority Tenements
Exploration activities also gained momentum during the quarter. They completed the processing of Airborne Magneto Telluric (MT) survey data across its core assets, including the Gold Mine, Ipi River, and Mt Penck tenements. These results are now underpinning an extensive exploration campaign targeting high-grade epithermal systems.
On the ground, the company drilled six holes as part of its on-mine exploration and undertook detailed surface mapping, which has revealed over five kilometres of mineralised vein structures. To further refine its drill targets, They is set to begin a wide-ranging ridge, spur, slope, and stream sampling program. The overarching goal is to deliver a JORC-compliant resource of at least one million ounces of gold at a minimum grade of 8 g/t by mid-2026.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Tailings Strategy
Significant work has also been carried out to refurbish key mine infrastructure, including high-voltage power, underground dewatering, ventilation, and other essential services. A modular tailings management system using geotubes has been successfully deployed to handle interim waste needs, while long-term tailings storage solutions remain under assessment.
Building a Stronger Team for Growth
In a strategic move to boost its geological capabilities, They welcomed Dr Chris Muller as Executive Group Geologist. Dr Muller brings extensive experience from major PNG projects, including K92 Mining and Newcrest's Wafi-Golpu, and will play a key role as the company advances exploration across its 1,962 square kilometres of tenements and applications.
